Internationally recognized as the capital of fashion, today Milan is also the capital of design. And design is the reason why, every April, Milan hosts the Salone del Mobile (Milan Furniture Fair), one of the most important trade fairs in the world for design, furnishings, lighting, and home technology in general. This year alone over 300,000 visitors have visited the fair (a third from outside Italy) in addition to 1,300 exhibitors, all of them professionals, designers and business people who used the fair to meet new contacts and exchange ideas.

Obviously protecting industrial property is one of the areas of highest priority at this type of event, what with the high risk of infringement during trade fair events and the great interest in protecting all types of innovation in the sector.

For some years now, Modiano has been tasked with offering exclusive assistance to members of Federlegno, Italy’s biggest association of furniture companies, and provide an anti-infringement service that enables exhibitors to call on immediate assistance in the event of a conflict with their industrial property rights.

In fact, an increasing number of Italian trade fairs are now setting up anti-infringement services at trade fairs, with the cooperation of specialist patent attorneys. This demonstrates once again the increasing strategy of industry and fairs alike of protecting companies’ technological, design and brand developments.
