Prabhuram Otharam

Prabhuram is a member of the patent department, specializing in life sciences and mechanics, and of the European patent department. He is also responsible for developing and maintaining client relations in the Asian area.

A European Patent Attorney and a Singapore Patent Agent, Prabhuram has extensive experience in working with clients across the globe, and he believes that evaluating their needs and objectives is a critical first step in planning and implementing effective IP strategies.

Prabhuram helps clients with drafting and filing patent applications and with patent prosecution in multiple countries. He also works on clearance and invalidity opinions, due diligence, and oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office. He also advises on matters relating to plant variety rights and medical device registrations.

He has excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, which enable him to forge solid professional relationships and to relate to clients from diverse backgrounds such as startups, individual inventors, universities, small/medium enterprises, technology transfer offices and multinationals, in Europe and further afield.

Prabhuram specializes in traditional pharmaceuticals, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory medicines, biological products and protein-based devices, vaccines, plant biotechnology, synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. He also works on medical, therapeutic and diagnostic devices, hydraulic devices such as hydrostatic and reluctance pumps, and mechanical and electromechanical devices such as motors, transmission systems and cooling systems.

Prabhuram graduated from university with a thesis titled “Cloning and characterization of part of the genome in Leptospira”.

Prior to joining Modiano & Partners, Prabhuram gained valuable experience in drafting, examination and prosecution of patent applications, and also in patent litigation, at a leading law firm in Singapore.
