Alessandro Sanchini

Alessandro is a member of the patent department, the European patent department and the litigation department, specialising in electronic engineering and computer science.

His broad experience in patent litigation began in the 1990s under Dr. Guido Modiano, one of the guiding lights of Italian patent law. Since then, Alessandro has been involved in many hundreds of IP litigation cases, either representing one of the parties in the lawsuit or as a court-appointed technical expert.

His international experience includes oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office as well as cross-border actions and multi-jurisdictional cases.

Alessandro’s areas of expertise in patents include pre-filing search analysis, national, European and international drafting, filing and prosecution, and also validity and infringement opinions, due diligence and litigation including both invalidity and infringement actions.

He assists clients with planning the most efficient IP strategy, including prior art and freedom-to-operate searches. He also helps clients with license, confidentiality and settlement IP agreements.

His experience makes him extremely versatile , able to work with individual inventors, small/medium enterprises, multinationals, research institutes, universities, technology transfer offices, venture capital companies and angel investors, both foreign and domestic.

Alessandro graduated from university with a thesis titled “High-level synthesis of self-diagnostic circuits through data coding”.

Prior to joining Modiano & Partners, Alessandro worked as a software designer and developer. He started out in the UK, where he worked on the design and implementation of communication systems to be applied in particular to field data collection and to remote sales systems. He then moved on to European R&D projects where he developed extensive experience in the design and implementation of embedded systems, self-diagnostic systems and aeronautical software.
