Patent attorney
Christian is a member of the patent department, the European patent department, and the litigation department.
He assists clients with drafting and filing their patent applications, patent prosecution, and managing their patent portfolios.
He has experience of working closely with foreign and domestic clients, and with a network of foreign associates, to devise and implement effective strategies for IP protection in the interest of his clients.
His activities also include drafting and filing national, European, and international patent applications, patent prosecution, as well as freedom-to-operate, infringement and validity opinions for patents.
He is often involved in oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office and also in litigation before national courts.
Christian’s background in applied physics is instrumental in drafting and prosecuting many categories of patent applications. He works with clients on inventions in fields including optics, lasers, nanotechnologies, electronic and optic measurements, instrumentation, nuclear technology, biomedical devices, renewable energy and energy harvesting/storage systems, materials technology, environmental engineering, electrical technology, industrial control systems, electronics, mechanics and mechatronics.
His clients include large multinational corporations, small/medium enterprises, individual inventors, research institutions, universities, technology transfer offices, venture capital firms and angel investors, both foreign and domestic.
Christian graduated from university with a thesis titled “Solid-state laser sources with wide Tm-Ho and Tm tunability at 2 microns” and obtained his Ph.D. with a dissertation titled “Passive mode locking of an in-band-pumped Ho:YLiF laser at 2.06 micron”.
Prior to joining Modiano & Partners, Christian worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Hamburg University in Germany.
