Alessandro Coppo

Patent and trademark attorney

Alessandro is a member of the patent department and specializes in chemistry and life sciences, and is a member of the European patent department and the litigation department; he also belongs to the medical technology team, which is involved in drafting patent applications for biomedical devices and in the enforcement of patent rights on behalf of the patent holder.

He assists clients in prior art search analysis, in drafting and filing national, European and international patent applications and in supervising patenting procedures for applications in foreign countries right up to the grant of the patent.

Alessandro has gained significant experience in patent disputes, acting both as a patent attorney and as a Court Technical Expert (CTE) appointed by the court to assist the judge. In addition he frequently works on litigation involving the main international pharmaceutical houses and makers of generic medicines.

As part of his technical/legal activities he also drafts opinions on patent infringement and patent validity.

In addition, he assists clients with planning and implementing strategies aimed at maximizing intangible assets and corporate intellectual property in general. His experience makes him extremely versatile, able to work with individual inventors, small/medium enterprises, multinationals, research institutes, universities, technology transfer offices, venture capital companies and angel investors, both foreign and domestic.

Over the years, he has gained specific technical and patent experience in the pharmaceutical, nutrition and cosmetic sectors. Alessandro has experience in the medical technology field and in the patentability of health technology solutions, including devices and apparatuses for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the human body and for rehabilitation.

Alessandro obtained his degree in pharmacology with a thesis titled "Application of a specific challenge test on eye shadows on the national market".

Alessandro began his career in the IP sector with Modiano, where he returned after working with three leading patent firms, one of which has an office in Glasgow, Scotland.
