Daniel is a member of the patent department, specializing in chemistry & life sciences, and of the European patent department.
He assists clients with drafting and filing their patent applications, patent prosecution, and managing their patent portfolios.
His activity also includes freedom-to-operate and prior art searches, freedom-to-operate and validity opinions, out-of-court matters and litigation before national courts, oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office and due diligence.
He also assists clients with licensing, distribution, confidentiality and settlement agreements in general and with strategic IP planning, both for research-driven companies and for non-patent owners.
Daniel specializes in the fields of organic and inorganic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, nutraceuticals, biochemistry, biotechnology, vaccine technology, immunotherapy, gene technology, polymer chemistry, agrochemicals, industrial chemistry, environmental chemistry, nanotechnology and medical devices.
His clients include large multinational corporations, small/medium enterprises, individual inventors, research institutions, universities, technology transfer offices, venture capital firms and angel investors, both foreign and domestic.
Daniel obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry with a thesis titled “Biosynthesis of polyunsaturated fatty acid in the red microalga porphyridium cruentum”.
Prior to joining Modiano & Partners, Daniel led R&D departments in various multinationals and startups (Biotrin, Diasorin, Atlas Genetics and Qiagen) in Ireland and the UK, in the field of molecular diagnosis of infectious diseases and oncology.
